You, Windarring & the NDIS

What is the NDIS?
NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme).
The NDIS supports people with a permanent and significant disability that affects their ability to take part in everyday activities.
We will work with you to identify supports you need to live your life. Supports may help you achieve goals in many aspects of your life, including independence, involvement in your community, education, employment and health and wellbeing.
The NDIS gives you more choice and control over how, when and where your supports are provided, and gives you certainty you will receive the support you need over your lifetime.
It also focuses on early intervention where getting early supports can reduce the impact of disability on you or your child.

Who administers the NDIS?
The National Disability Insurance Agency delivers the NDIS.
NDIA administers the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) which is being introduced across Australia and is expected to be fully operational by 2018. The NDIS is a new way of providing services and individualised support for people with disability, their families and carers. Windarring is working towards being NDIS ready and will assist you through the transition process.

When will the Central Victoria region receive the NDIS?
THE NDIS will be available to people in our region in May 2017.
How do I apply for the NDIS?
If you are a person with disability who wished to participate in the NDIS, you must first be assessed against the access requirements. You can use the NDIS Access Checklist to check if you are eligible.

How is Windarring preparing for the NDIS?

The Disability Support Register
The Disability Support Register (DSR) is a database maintained by Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) of all the people with an assessed need for funding (Individual Support Package) to purchase supports that meet their disability needs or for supported accommodation. The DSR is the current method used to allocate these supports in a fair and efficient manner when funding or vacancies become available and will be replaced by the NDIS in due course.
Windarring can assist you to apply for ongoing disability support. More information on the DSR is available at
